Spit or Swallow? A Sign of Real Kombucha

Found a SCOBY in your kombucha? That’s a good thing.

It’s one of the clearest signs that you’re drinking real, living kombucha.

A SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria & Yeast) is the heart of kombucha. When you find a small piece in your bottle, it means your kombucha is raw, alive, and authentically fermented.

In other words:

You’re drinking the real thing.

Why SCOBY is a sign of quality:

• It shows active fermentation and living cultures

• It confirms your kombucha hasn’t been overly processed

• It’s a natural byproduct of authentic brewing

A healthy SCOBY is completely food-safe and made up of beneficial bacteria and yeast held together by natural cellulose. Some people choose to eat it, others sip around it. There’s no right or wrong. What matters is what it represents.

At Tea of Life, we don’t filter out the life.

We brew kombucha the way it’s meant to be: alive, cultured, and full of character. Occasionally, that means a little extra culture shows up in your bottle and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Real kombucha has culture.

If you see SCOBY, you’re sipping the good stuff.
