Quick answers to common questions

These come up most often — you might find what you need right here.

Yes. Elizabeth, our founder, is herself a Type 1 diabetic and drinks Tea of Life daily. The long fermentation process means most of the sugar is consumed during brewing, resulting in a low residual sugar drink that is safe and well tolerated by diabetics. We always recommend listening to your own body and consulting your health practitioner if you have any specific concerns.

Yes — always. Tea of Life is raw and alive, which means the fermentation cultures remain active. Refrigeration slows fermentation, keeps the flavour balanced, and prevents over-carbonation. Store upright and keep chilled at all times. Open slowly to avoid overflow, especially if the bottle has been jostled.

If you are new to kombucha, start with 100 to 150ml per day and let your body adjust. Most regular drinkers enjoy 300 to 500ml daily. Because Tea of Life is fully fermented and raw, some people experience mild digestive changes early on as their gut microbiome adapts — this is normal and usually passes within a few days.

Completely normal — and actually a good sign. Tea of Life is raw and unfiltered, which means the living cultures, yeast strands and natural sediment remain in the bottle. This is evidence of genuine fermentation. Give the bottle a gentle tilt before opening if you would like to redistribute them, or leave them settled at the bottom.

We want every order to be right. If something is not quite what you expected, email us at sales@teaoflife.co.za with your order number and a brief description of the issue and we will walk you through the returns process. We aim to resolve all queries quickly and fairly.

Kombucha naturally produces trace amounts of alcohol as a byproduct of fermentation. These levels are very low — well below the threshold for classification as an alcoholic beverage — and Tea of Life is considered non-alcoholic. The cans in particular are fully safe for children to enjoy.
